In addition to over 26 years of experience in the world of government systems, structures, law and contract negotiations, Mednick is a national leader in public safety and integrated justice technology as the past President of the IJIS Institute.
For more than twenty-six years, Steven G. Mednick, as a practicing attorney has represented public and private sector clients on the gambit of issues from major technology transactions to contract negotiation, from specialized construction litigation to the analysis of government systems and advising on alternate structures of governance. His law practice (The Law Offices of Steven G. Mednick) focuses on municipal issues (including planning and zoning), economic development and technology projects for public and private sector institutional clients. Mr. Mednick understands the service needs of government having served the City of New Haven as an Alderman for ten years (serving as chair of the Finance Committee for six and as President Pro Tempore for four years); Corporation Counsel for almost three years; and, Commissioner of the Housing Authority for nine years. He served the National League of Cities as Vice Chair of the Human Development Steering Committee and as Char of the International economic Development Task Force. As special counsel for the cities of Hartford, New Britain and Waterbury, Mednick has drafted three major municipal charter revisions bring the governance of those three cities into the 21st century. Charter revisions represent the merging of law, political organization, practical judgment and knowledge of what does and doesn’t work for a particular community. Mednick recently completed a revision of the procurement statutes for the State of Connecticut Contract Standards Review Board, based upon the Model Procurement Code of the American Bar Association. The bill is pending before the General Assembly. He has also draft procurement, civil service, ethics, administrative practices and pension ordinances for the Waterbury and Hartford. In developing procurement ordinances for municipalities Mednick attempts to create a linear process where pathways are evident to both the government officials and service providers.
